25 Sep, 2020The story of our wedding
Our original wedding date was in 2020, but because of the pandemic we ended up postponing for a year to be able to have our loved ones celebrate with us. This resulted in our sending out a whole stack of mail--save the date, invitation with RSVP card, postponement card, reminder invitation...pulling them all together with cohesive fonts and styling was key. We had an overarching theme of "bright but moody" and I think that came together really well, especially with the florals! My dress had a traditional silhouette, but showed a little bit of edge with the plunging neckline, oversized embroidery, and angular hairpiece and jewelry. I was so grateful to be able to wear my mother's vintage veil--such a great heirloom detail! We had our photographer match a photo that my mother had done back on her wedding day, and she now has prints of both of them hanging next to each other in her house. Jared killed it with my engagement ring (blue-green oval sapphire that he was told was one-of-a-kind, with diamond baguette halo) that I couldn't imagine wearing it stacked with something else, so for my wedding band, we chose a Jenny Kwon design with lovebirds--the perfect quirky detail! Jared's suit jacket had the best little polka dot detail, and after being uncomfortable in a few of our friends' weddings, he loved the idea of skipping the tie for both him and his boys.

For our decorations, we relied heavily on florals and bold typographic signage. I loved pulling all of that together! We used a large painting I did as our welcome table backdrop, and it reinforced the color palette right when people walked in. Once the reception started, the night just flew by! Everyone loved our caricaturist for the night, and we were all getting really into the music--we asked our DJ to only play 90's songs! Our first dance was to "Truly, Madly, Deeply", which fit right in. Jared has a running gag where at all his friends' weddings, at some point in the night he gives them a lap dance, and he ended up getting a good 10-15 series of them in return at the end of the night! We are so happy our family and friends had a great time celebrating with us after such a tumultuous year; it was really the perfect night.
On a more somber note, only 4 months after this night, my father passed away unexpectedly, which makes these memories and photographs even more precious. He was the proudest daddy walking me down the aisle and doing our father-daughter dance and giving his little welcome speech. I am so happy we have all of these memories.
