19 Jun, 2021The story of our wedding
Jim and I chose to get married in front of his parent's cottage overlooking Higgins Lake because of how sentimental this place is to us. We both grew up in Mid-Michigan and would travel "up north" to Higgins Lake on summer weekends, with only 4 cottages between our family's homes. We started dating one summer at the lake, got engaged at Higgins Lake after 6 years, and got married there after 7 years together.
Jim's father restores vintage wood boats. It was so special to take a sunset cruise in our favorite boat (driven by the best man!). Even sweeter, Jim's father made a wood boat wagon that the ring bearer stole the crowd in.
We loved our ceremony in front of his parent's A-frame cottage and then dancing the night away under a clear top tent surrounded by pine trees and ferns. Going into our wedding day, I was nervous that the day would be a whirlwind and that we would be "going through the motions." However, being at our favorite place brought a sense of calmness and we were able to fully enjoy our selves because it felt like us being up north with all our family and friends like it is most of the summer. We are so happy to have another wonderful Higgins Lake memory.
