18 May, 2019The story of our wedding
We are Maine Police Academy Sweethearts- built our strong bond through crazy work schedules and stressful long days at work. We knew instantly- literally- that we are meant for each other.
Engagement within a year after after Police Academy graduation- on a snowy winter day in Maine at a horse drawn carriage farm.
Our love endured a lengthy military deployment- during which I planned and organized our entire Wedding- of 165 guests.
On May18th, 2019 we became Mr & Mrs McKechnie
We selected to have our Wedding in Southwest Harbor, Maine where my in-laws live on the ocean's coast with their own private beach frontage. We selected a small church built in the 1700s for the ceremony- which was a short walk from our family home.
We included my husband's Scottish hertiage as well as my design vision for a wedding that would be timeless, true New England, modern and blush pink. We oped for an open tent space that gave amazing views of the low tide that was literally steps away from the tent. Guests walked along the short and enjoyed being literally on the ocean during sunset.

My Parents and I arrived to the ceremony in a 1950s rare blue Bentley that was driven by the local owner. This is also the vehicle we left the ceremony in and used in our photos as well as our transportation to our reception.
Our West Highland Terrier puppy, Maximiian, was the Dog of Honor in his custom made kilt from Austrailia that was also made of the McKechnie family tartan. During the ceremony he was not on a leash so he slipped under my dress and licked my lotion off my legs- peaked into the Pastor's office and then finally laid on my cathedrial train and took a nap.
We had 90s and 2000s hits blasting as the open bar served local brews and wine! We had a local characature artist capture funny handdrawn photos of our guests as well. We of course had whoopie pies- featuring a "Butterbeer" flavor- a quiet nod to our love for Harry Potter.
Our wedding colors were blush, navy, cream and pinks. Our florals were mostly peonies and cabbage roses- only in white and pink.
We walked to the lobster pier next to our reception site and took photos there as we looked back at our tent and all our guests enjoying cocktail hour.
There was a pinata- confetti canons and Bridesmen...do I need to say more?!
So much love, so much Maine and so perfect!
