17 Aug, 2019The story of our wedding
Kevin proposed to me on October 27, 2017 in Florence, Italy. From that day on I was on WeddingWire planning away. We took almost two years to plan as we wanted to be able to save up and have our dream wedding. We originally set out to have a wedding that cost around $20-25,000 but in reality we spent about $33,000. We were gifted money from my father (Bride) and my mother and step-father (Bride). We tried to keep costs down by going with more reasonable vendors, in Rhode Island it can be hard to do as weddings are just generally more expensive here.
For our wedding we chose Warwick Country Club and it was the first vendor we booked in November of 2017. We booked early but we wanted to get the venue we wanted on the date we wanted. From there we booked our photographer and videographer (found on WeddingWire), DJ, and officiant (found at a local bridal expo). We did not book our flowers or hair and makeup until about six months out.
Leading up to the wedding all we hoped for was a sunny day as our venue, Warwick Country Club is right on the ocean and you get married on the lawn overlooking the ocean. We did not wat to have to get married inside. Two weeks out from our wedding the forecast called for rain. We decided to risk it and not tent and not plan an indoor ceremony. Tenting would have cost an extra few thousand dollars which we simply did not have, and getting married inside would have crushed our hopes and dreams for the day.

We were able to get ready onsite as the country club has a bridal suite and a groom’s suite. This also helped to cut out the cost of transportation. Once we were ready I took pictures outside with my bridesmaids and mother and my husband also got pictures with the groomsmen. We avoided contact and had no first look. Kevin wanted the first time he saw me to be me coming down the aisle.
I started to get worried about the rain after our pictures as it was getting gloomier outside. The country club assured me that the radar showed no rain for the time our ceremony was set to begin. Also, before the ceremony I was texting with my husband to be about the rain as we were both a little worried. During the exchange I thought to text him about our wedding rings a he was supposed to bring them from our house. Thank goodness I texted him about the rings as he forgot them! My poor dad had to run to get them for us before the ceremony.
Once our ceremony started and we got almost all the way through until the skies opened up and it started to rain. Thankfully the rain only lasted about 30 seconds everyone laughed about it including us, What could we do at that point. Once the ceremony was over we took pictures while our guests went to cocktail hour inside the country club. There was no rain while we were taking picture so we were able to get some amazing shots. The rest of the night went off without a hitch. We had a lot of fun. We had a mostly open bar (we had to prepay and it last almost the whole night) and that helped encourage people onto the dancefloor. We were blessed that 136 out of the 150 people we invited came to our wedding. We even had an extra guest show up, a wedding crasher in the sense that he did not get a seat or a plate but instead hung around the dancefloor and the bar. But it was ok because it was my husband’s employee and he did not cause a problem. I did not even know that he wasn’t supposed to be there. But everyone is still letting us know about the great food and music that we had at our wedding. At the end of the night I drove myself and my new husband home in his car and then a few hours later we were up and at the airport for our honeymoon.
I still can’t believe that after almost two years of planning, the day went by so quick. I am grateful we hired a videographer so we can relive our day over and over and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering it. I also recommend that you enjoy the day and don’t sweat the small stuff. No one is going to remember your day like you do, at the end of the day. So be present and let others handle any problems.
