3 Nov, 2019The story of our wedding
The Proposal: They woke up on Saturday morning and usually, Kyle would be working on the road that day - so they wanted to take advantage of him being home! They had a date day planned. They went to downtown Franklin for breakfast at Pucketts - it was so romantic. Side note: Kyle was so stressed about his new haircut looking good and Shannon was really confused because he’s never that “high maintenance” – she found out why later. After breakfast, they went for a walk down Natchez Trace Parkway. When they got to the middle of the bridge it seemed like the world unfolded before them and Shannon turned around to see Kyle on one knee. It was so romantic and so perfectly "them".
The Preparation: Shannon had always worked a side hustle as a wedding planner's assistant; even now in addition to her 9-5. Once they got engaged, she knew exactly what she wanted (and more importantly) didn't want, for their big day. Kyle also wanted to be involved in the planning process so the two did everything themselves with the help of their parents. On a budget, the two always made sure to price check everything and find the best hacks around what could be done to accomplish what they truly wanted; a day that felt authentically like "them". Their biggest piece of advice: custom doesn't mean more expensive. Working with small and local businesses helped them to cut cost, while keeping things unique.

From a family tree at the ceremony site to personalized cuff links and a bride's gift that was engraved with their wedding date; everything about their wedding day was personalized with a touch of them. Kyle and Shannon didn't do a first look because they wanted to capture that initial "walk down the aisle moment"; instead of unity sand or candles at the ceremony they did a unity cookie mix that they'll pause and make during their first fight as a married couple. They had a VW photo van instead of a booth that was a real crowd-pleaser. Favors were a custom spice & label the couple designed together. Shannon surprised Kyle with a Green Bay Packers groom's cake. Their favorite moment at the wedding is when Shannon decided to sing "Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin to Kyle.
