29 Sep, 2023The story of our wedding
After 7 years of dating, michael took me to the waterfront restaurant where we had our first date to propose. It was a warm Saturday night in late July, and we had a planned reservation to eat lobster rolls and truffles fries at our favorite restaurant. On our way home, we took a detour and Michael told me to take a sudden turn. The restaurant where we had our first date no longer exists so when we pulled into the vacant parking lot, I knew something was going on. Things didn't go exactly as planned- he wanted to propose closer to water, however with me being confused, i encouraged us to leave so he had no choice but to get down on one knee in the parking lot instead. We didn't take any photos (nor did we want to). It was a moment for our eyes only.
We got married on our 10 year anniversary! When we realized our anniversary would fall on a Friday, we knew we had to do something big so we chose to tie the knot at our dream location with almost 200 people in attendance. We booked Belle Mer in Newport two years in advance, we fell in love with the venue, and the view was to die for. We planned to be married on the lawn overlooking the Newport bridge. The weather called for rain putting our ceremony at risk. It rained ALL DAY but by the grace of god (and many prayers) it stopped just in time the ceremony. Our little miracle of the day.

Silver votives, picture frames and bridesmaids dresses were the color of choice. We wanted a clean esthetic, a fresh look and silver was perfect. In Greek mythology, silver represents positive energy that it pulls from the earth and moon. With the rain earlier in the day and a full moon at night, we manifested all the positive vibes we could have hoped for.
Symbolism was hugely important to us. With an Albanian bride and Italian groom, we wanted to use our cultures during our day. We had traditional Albanian dancing, a veil and handkerchief made in Albania, along with five almonds as a favor that is traditional in both cultures. The grooms tux was custom made in Italy and Italian ruscus adorned the tables and brides bouquet.
The grooms best friend, James, passed away years ago and we wanted to honor him and his family. I surprised Michael with a custom pin to wear with James’s picture on it. A memorial table was set up with pictures of our loved ones. James’ brother was the best man and his father married us.
The bride also had the privilege of wearing a once in a lifetime necklace consisting of blue topaz, sapphires and diamonds originally crafted for the academy awards.
