27 Oct, 2018The story of our wedding
PJ and I have been dating since we met in highschool in 2010. We got engaged in Iceland on our way to a few other destinations in Europe. Our families we're overly excited thoughout the entire planning process.
We had a destination wedding from Pittsburgh to the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort in Florida at one of the most beautiful venues. We wanted to get married at a resort on the beach but not have the ceremony on the beach and Walker's Landing provided a fairy tale forest right on the banks of the bay. Almost all of our guests traveled to be with us for the entire weekend. We had a traditional rehearsal dinner with the wedding party, but had a welcome bonfire on the beach to greet all of our guests. This was one of our favorite parts because 1) beach bonfire? so fun and 2) we had time to talk to all of our guests which aleviated some stress on our wedding day knowing that we already spoke to most of our guests and wouldn't have to do the dreaded table to table talk at our reception. Plus, everyone really enjoyed the bonfire. It was a laid-back vibe with a smores bar and some drinks.

Greatest decision, we got all of our pictures out of the way before the ceremony and got to enjoy cocktail hour with everyone. We didn't want to miss a second of the action.
I loved the color scheme for our wedding - coral is my favorite color! Little did I know that it would be the Pantone color of 2019. My bridesmaids were wearing light pink, coral and light orange. The bright colors looked amazing against the tropical greens and Spanish moss trees. I also loved the way we displayed our escort cards. There is a wrap around deck at the reception area we used for cocktail hour. They build around the trees so they pop through the deck. We strung up our cards around the tree with gold elastic, I think it was very unique and looked pretty cool.
We also had some grandparents that we're not able to make the trip to Florida for our big day. We still wanted to send them a little something to let them know we were thinking about them, so we made signs that said hello grandma & pappy and snapped a picture to send to them. They really appreciated that.
Other things that stand out in my mind is my Dad's speech, he totally killed it and was practically a stand up comedian on stage. He even sang a portion of "A Whole New World" as that was our favorite song growing up - no, he is not a singer and it was not good, but very funny. We also danced to a version of this song as our first dance. Our families have become very close over the years so we actually danced with both our fathers, and both of our mothers. That was very special to new our "new" parents as well.
All of the vendors we worked with were great and planning from Pittsburgh turned out to be pretty simple! I wish we could do it all over again every weekend!
