26 Oct, 2019The story of our wedding
Stephen and I grew up living ten minutes apart our entire lives. We found each other on an online dating site. We started talking in July 2018 and were looking at engagement rings by Christmas. We actually picked a wedding date in January based on when my sister could come since she lives in another country. We had the date and he had the ring so I was waiting for him to propose! He told me it would be in February so I waited not so patiently as the weeks passed.
When we first started dating Stephen gave me a picture of an old pretty building on my college campus. We had talked about going to a basketball game sometime with some of my friends from college. I had dinner with a friend and when I got home I mentioned she had said something about wanting to go back for a game. He lit up and said we should definitely do that. The next few days and weeks he kept bugging me about making plans to go to the game. He also casually mentioned that he wanted to see the building in the picture he gave me since he had never been before. I knew he was going to propose soon so it was pretty suspicious to me and I was pretty sure it would happen there.

On the way to lunch I had a wardrobe malfunction. I was freaking out because I needed to go buy a new outfit and he was freaking out thinking I would want to go home. I was pretty sure he would propose so I was even more nervous having to go to the store when we were supposed to be on our way to lunch. Everything ended up fine and we had lunch with my friends and headed to campus.
As we got closer to the building I started getting nervous and I could tell he was too. One of my friends bought her nice camera she said to take pictures of us in front of our sorority house. As we approached the building from the picture my friends dropped behind us until it was just me and him. He got down on one knee and since I wasn't shocked I was able to soak in every word and appreciate the moment. He pulled out the ring I had picked out and it was perfect.
We had an eight month engagement with a bunch of wedding showers! It was great celebrating with friends, family, and coworkers. Our wedding date was the end of October since my niece had a two week break from school. That was the only sad part for me was that one of my sisters and Matrons of Honor was not able to come until about a week before the wedding. Having her and her family there was the most important thing to me. My other sister was my other Matron of Honor and their children were my flower girls and ring bearers.
We decided to have our wedding at our church. Our church has a huge pretty sanctuary and another room that would work for the wedding reception. We didn't have dancing or alcohol at our reception and we wanted something small. We also were leaving on a cruise the next day that was eight hours away and planned on driving down halfway after our wedding.
We had a slight chance of rain and semi cool temperatures on our wedding day. Despite the groomsmen having to run inside when it started raining during their pictures the weather was perfect. The overcast skies made for gorgeous pictures and our photographer got everything we wanted. The video was perfect too and the day was so special with all my family in the wedding. My favorite moment was having my first look with my dad. He choked up and it was a very special and tender moment. Stephen didn't want to have a first look and then when he saw me coming down the aisle he had to bite his lip so he didn't cry. My uncle married us and we had the beautiful organ at the church to provide the music. Some of my favorite pictures were taken on these steps in my church so I could have my Beauty and the Beast "Belle" moment.
After the wedding we went on an amazing Disney Cruise. A few weeks later we went to visit my sister where she lives in England and went with her family to Wales. We are so happy to have found each other and love getting to live our lives together.
